LASER ENGRAVING SOFTWARE

Laser Engraving Software: Free Online GRBL Laser CAM

Powered by XING CAM — supporting CO2, diode, and fiber laser engravers and cutters

Looking for reliable laser engraving software? XING CAM is a completely free, online laser engraving and cutting control software. It talks to GRBL / Marlin / Smoothie controllers directly from your browser, and ships a full camera vision pipeline: lens calibration, workspace alignment, WYSIWYG overlay positioning, camera trace (snap-and-engrave), and batch engraving via workpiece detection. On top of that, you get SVG / DXF / DWG / PDF / PNG / JPG / BMP import, grayscale engraving, dithering, multi-layer processes, resume protection, and G-Code simulation.

What makes good laser engraving software?

Most laser engraving software falls into three buckets: installed desktop apps (LightBurn, LaserGRBL, Benbox), vendor bundled apps, and online tools — of which there have historically been few usable options.

XING CAM positions itself as a truly usable online laser engraving software. Open xingxyz.com in a browser, and it just works — completely free, no watermark, no trial, and not locked to a specific brand. As long as your laser engraver or laser cutter runs GRBL / Marlin / Smoothie, you are covered.

If you are searching Bing for "laser engraving software", "free laser engraving software", "LaserGRBL alternative", or "LightBurn alternative", XING CAM is a good first try.

Core capabilities (optimized for laser)

Camera WYSIWYG positioning

Mount any USB camera above your laser; XING CAM overlays the design on top of the live camera feed so the laser path aligns perfectly with your material.

Camera trace (snap-and-engrave)

Snap a photo of a shape, auto-binarize / color-key / vectorize, and turn it into a laser path — perfect for reproducing hand-drawn sketches or existing workpiece outlines.

Batch laser engraving

Detect multiple randomly placed workpieces and replicate the same design to each, generating batched G-Code in one go — no manual per-part alignment.

Image & grayscale engraving

Built-in grayscale mapping and dithering (Floyd-Steinberg / Stucki / Atkinson) with min/max power, contrast, and gamma control.

Vector path optimization

SVG / DXF / DWG / PDF imports are auto-merged and reordered to minimize travel, with lead-in/lead-out and overshoot control for cutting.

Multi-layer process

Assign different power, speed, passes, and modes (fill / outline / cut) per color or layer — combine engrave + cut in one job.

Real-time GRBL control

Web based direct connection, real-time coordinate / progress / alarm reporting, pause / resume / home / e-stop.

Simulation & time estimate

Preview laser paths, power distribution, and estimated duration before running.

Resume protection

Recover interrupted jobs from the stopped line, reducing waste.

Graphical firmware tuning

Read / write GRBL parameters ($0-$132) without memorizing commands; toggle laser mode ($32) easily.

Multi-unit & WCS

mm / inch switch, G54-G59 work coordinate systems, preset origins.

Camera Vision

Camera vision features (WYSIWYG laser engraving)

XING CAM ships a complete camera pipeline — lens calibration, workspace alignment, WYSIWYG overlay, camera trace, and vision-based batch engraving. Any USB camera works, and all computer vision runs locally in the browser via OpenCV.js + WebAssembly.

Lens calibration

Use the built-in calibration board to remove wide-angle distortion and produce a true top-down view that's truly proportional to your work area.

Workspace alignment wizard

Match camera pixels to machine coordinates with a 4-point (or grid) alignment. Multiple cameras and machines each keep their own alignment data.

Overlay positioning

Drop a design on top of the live camera image, drag / rotate / scale to match material. Ideal for irregular stock, engraving onto existing prints, rescue touch-ups, and patch engraving.

Camera trace (snap-and-engrave)

Frame a piece of material, press capture, and XING CAM auto-binarizes and vectorizes — turning photos, stickers, or workpiece contours directly into laser paths.

Vision-based batch engraving

Scatter multiple identical pieces on the bed; the camera detects each position/rotation and replicates your design to every one in a single batched G-Code job.

Multi-camera management

Manage multiple cameras (e.g., a macro and a wide-angle), each with its own calibration and alignment stored separately.

Local & private

All image processing happens in the browser (OpenCV.js + WASM). Video never leaves your machine.

Supported laser machines

XING CAM works with most laser engravers and laser cutters running GRBL firmware, including:

CO2 laser engravers & cutters

K40, Ortur Laser Master Pro, Thunder, NEJE and other GRBL-modified CO2 laser machines.

Diode (blue/IR) laser engravers

Ortur, Atomstack, Sculpfun, NEJE, TwoTrees, xTool (GRBL mode) and other major diode lasers.

Fiber laser markers

Fiber lasers via GRBL adapter boards, suitable for metal engraving and stainless marking.

Combined laser machines

GRBL controlled laser engraving + cutting combos, desktop laser modules.

Process parameters & grayscale workflow

In XING CAM every imported bitmap or vector becomes a layer with its own process. A typical laser workflow is: import SVG / PNG → choose process (fill / outline / cut) → set speed and power → pick grayscale mode and dithering → simulate → send G-Code.

For image engraving, there is a dedicated "laser image engraving" process: choose grid DPI, min/max power, invert, and directly map grayscale to laser power. Line-art can use dithering to mimic grayscale.

For cutting, XING CAM supports lead-in/lead-out, overshoot prevention, and per-layer pass count — combine with air assist and focus tuning for clean edges.
